Final Fantasy 14director Naoki Yoshida has confirmed in a recent interview with TheGamer thatDawntrail’s Alexandria is from the ninth reflection.
Over the years, Final Fantasy fans have had a ton of different theories about the world of Final Fantasy 14.
One of the most recent is regarding Alexandria, one of the Reflections that appears in the recent Dawntrail expansion.
We’ve explored some of FF14’s reflections in the past, with the first appearing in Shadowbringers, and have heard about how others got destroyed, but Alexandria remained a bit of a mystery.
We spoke with FFXIV’s Yoshi-P at Gamescom about Living Memory, whether digital life is really living, and hints about the future.
One of the most popular fan theories is that Alexandria comes from the 12th Reflection, which we know suffered from a lightning calamity at one point or another.
This made it seem like a natural fit as we know Alexandria also suffered from a lightning imbalance, but it turns out that isn’t the case at all, as Final Fantasy 14’s director, Naoki Yoshida, has now confirmed that Alexandria is actually from the ninth reflection.
Yoshi-P Confirms Alexandria Is From The Ninth Reflection In Final Fantasy 14
While at Gamescom, executive editor Meg Pelliccio was able to sit down with Yoshida and chat about the recent release of the Dawntrail expansion.
During the interview,Yoshi-P started to talk about the City of Gold, Living Memory in Alexandria, and very casually confirmed that it’s part of the ninth reflection.
Yoshi-P expressed that the team wanted players not to just read the story, but to experience it as a game.
When it came to searching for the City of Gold, he wanted that to be expressed within the story and that it needed to be done authentically to do a “proper job”.
After noting that, Yoshida suddenly revealed that Alexandria is from the ninth reflection instead of the 12th as some fans had theorised.
This was the ideal place to live, as it were, but when we view it from reality, it seems quite scary in that sense.
We felt that we needed to make it authentically and we needed to do a proper job, otherwise the thoughts of those people who live in the ninth reflection wouldn’t be properly conveyed.
- Naoki Yoshida
It’s a bit surprising that Yoshi-P just decided to randomly confirm this out of nowhere considering how much it’s been discussed by fans, but it does make some sense considering Alexandria is based on Final Fantasy 9 and features a lot of references to that game.
When you think about it, the City of Gold being from the ninth reflection is pretty perfect
Avoweds melee combat feels a bit dated, but flinging spells around is pure magic and lets the top-tier writing and characters shine.
