Summary
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Skyisgetting a remake later this year, and for a lot of people, that’s enough to make it one of the most exciting releases of 2025.
We’ve seen a couple of trailers so far, showcasing some incredible animations and combat, but we don’t know much more about whether the original’s charm will carry over into the remake.
Localization is a hot topic in the Trails community, and Trails in the Sky’s localization by Xseed is renowned for taking certain liberties with the original Japanese text.
Overall, it’s a localization that is seen as positive, with many claims that it’s actually better than the original script, and made protagonist Estellemuch more bubbly and over-the-top than she is in the original.
As an example, Estelle’s famous “Time for Ul-tra-vi-o-lence” quote is a creation of Xseed’s localization.
Trails Fans Are Concerned Over Sky Remake’s “New Localization”
However, it doesn’t appear that Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will be bringing over Xseed’s script.Pre-orders for the title went live earlier today, and while most of the info included was already known, there is one little detail revealed by publisher GungHo that is causing a little bit of concern:
“Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter features a new localization, ensuring an authentic and engaging experience that honors the original Japanese text.”
Of course, this could just be a bit of marketing spiel to help drive pre-orders, but it’s casting some doubt over the game as a whole.
Reddit user Icannotbeasked explains that they’re now worried that this new localization will result in the remake “losing a lot of Estelle’s iconic lines”, while another called KnoxZone says that they’ll “be bummed if our spunky violent tomboy is a little less of that”.
We’ll have to see how it shakes out, but if this new localization is a little more identical to the Japanese version, then the game will undoubtedly lose a lot of personality for many people.
It’ll be a win for all the localization purists out there, but I just hope Bestelle hasn’t been tempered too much.
