Devil May Cryfans really aren’t happy with theNetflixadaptation’s portrayal of Dante and Lady, with most agreeing that they’re very out of character and simplified.

With video game adaptations all the rage right now in the world of movies and streaming, there’s a lot of discussion about which are the best and most influential. The Last of Us and Sonic get a lot of mentions, but one that’s strangely left out is Netflix’sCastlevania, which revived the series with a more character-driven and story-focused lens.

After the success of Castlevania and its spin-off, Nocturne, the director of the original series has moved on to adaptanother beloved and relatively quiet gaming series - Devil May Cry.

While the series is getting decent reviews from critics and is visually stunning, it seems that it’s a miss for a lot of fans.

Devil May Cry Fans Really Don’t Like How The Netflix Series Adapts The Game

Dante And Lady Aren’t Quite Themselves

Ever since the series started streaming on Netflix a few days ago, Devil May Cry has been hit with some pretty hefty negative feedback from long-time fans of the series.

One of the biggest criticism is how it portrays Dante, who is much more carefree and meme-y in the adaptation than he is in the games, despite being known as a bit of a goof.

Twitter user DrakeVagabond summed the complaints up pretty nicelywhen he pointed out that Dante is much more similar to Deadpool in the Netflix series than he is to his character in the games.

Other fans, such as Twitter user MrYGuy2, have pointed out how weak Dante feels in the series, as he struggles to go up against demons he wipes the floor with in the games.

Anotherissue that fans have with Dante in the Netflix series is how the series gives him some of Nero’s motifs, such as playing Devil Trigger in his transformation scene.

While it seems that at least some fans are trying to defend Dante and don’t mind the portrayal since he’s supposed to be younger, it seems that most don’t like the Netflix show’s version of Lady.Twitter user bradyonetta says that she’s an “unlikeable loser who swears every two seconds”,while PersoU01 sank low and said she’s “worse than reboot Dante”.

While a lot of the discussion surrounding Devil May Cry is quite negative right now, it does seem that some fans have managed to find the fun in it at least.

That being said,if some of the positive reviews recommend that you just don’t think of it as canon, that does saysomethingabout how it adapts the series.
