When theNintendo Switch 2launches later this year, not only will nearly all the original Nintendo Switch’s existing librarybe backwards compatible, butseveral games will receive “Switch 2” editions, including bothThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildandTears of the Kingdom, as well asSuper Mario Party JamboreeandKirby and the Forgotten Land.

Breath of the Wilds Switch 2 port doesnt change too much, but a fresh coat of paint on an all-timer has me excited to sink another 100 hours.

Naturally, these upgrades won’t be free, withNintendotoutingan upgrade path for those who already own the original game.

For instance, both Zelda titles will have a $9.99 upgrade cost, with the Switch 2 editions bringing forward improved visuals, along with the Zelda Notes app.

Now, the upgrade paths for Mario and Kirby have been revealed, and things have gone up … significantly.

Kirby Just Doesn’t Eat His Foes, They’ll Eat Your Wallet, Too

As first spotted by NintendoLife, the Switch 2 “upgrades” for both Mario and Kirby will set players back 16.99 / 19.99.

For those in the United States, either pack is $19.99, representing a price increase of more than double what is being charged for the Zelda games.

What’s more, the $9.99 upgrade cost for the Zelda games isn’t necessarily required, as those who have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription will be able to upgrade their games for free, provided the subscription remains active.

At the moment, a similar offer does not exist for either the Mario or Kirby titles, presenting players with two paths: either fork over the $19.99 or pay the $79.99 for the dedicated “Switch 2 edition” of the game.

While it is important to remember that both Kirby and Mario will feature expanded content, including some rather neat Switch 2 functionality in the case of Jamboree, the paid upgrades do representanother point of contention for fans who already feel like they’re being gouged on every little thing before the console has had any chance to release.
