The only meteor shower on Destiny Islands (that we know of) happened when Kairiarrivedon the island.

Sora may have forgotten Rikus promise to protect him, but Riku hasnt.
Having grown older, perhaps Riku now wants his devotion to be something stronger than a childhood promise.
