If the crossbow is next-to-useless inThe Witcher 3then the Aard sign is its distant cousin.

Upgrade it, then get the respec potion in Skellige to reset your skill tree.
You have to “make an opponent suffer from bleeding, poisoning and burning simultaneously.”
And you have to do it 10 times.
Igni is one of the best offensive signs so get used to using it to cause the burning effect.
After that get in a routine of throwing igni and swinging like a madman.
Choose Syanna even though the Unseen Elder leads to a better, more fulfilling ending.
You have to beat the game on “Death March” which is the hardest difficulty in the game.
There are side-quests in almost every major city that will grant you cards, always look out for them.
And if someone offers you the choice between cards or coin, always take the former.
