It Takes Twos Story Was Key To Making It Work
I liked It Takes Two.
Were just better than those other couples, I guess.
We both walked away from the game happy.
It Takes Two is about a couple whos planning to get divorced.
Was it a little trite?
No, but look, its the metaphor.
And that end goal had real stakes, instigating emotional investment on the players part.
Unlike in Hazelights other games, Split Fictions protagonists, Mio and Zoe, are strangers.
Split Fiction sure has a dim view of writers for a game all about them.
Theres absolutely no reason to care, and they therefore cooperate only by necessity.
Its because of this lack of congruence that Split Fiction feels like a regression.
In this way, it iterates on the gameplay that made It Takes Two a hit.
But narratively, its Hazelights weakest game yet.
That doesnt mean its not worth playing.
Split Fiction may have Hazelights best gameplay yet, but I fear its lost the plot.
