If there’s one thing you’re free to guarantee from theResident Evilseries, it’s disturbing monsters.
Take the Tyrants, the leading example of Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.Ws) created by the Umbrella Corporation.
One such monster you encounter during all this is Thanatos.
Godly name aside, Thanatos is actually an exceedingly normal-looking Tyrant.
He’s mostly just a dude.
Except his heart is enlarged and bursting through his chest, and his hands have become claws.

That’s part of his charm though.
He’s overall easily forgotten, but seeing the human underneath shows the reality of what Tyrants are.
Grey, bald head in a trench coat.
That is, of course, until he mutates.
A fearsome beast you do not want to encounter.
8Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles - Ivan
The Umbrella Chronicles has a pretty self-explanatory name.
A lot to unpack there.
In this game, you learn of the Ivan Tyrants.
They were specifically designed as bodyguards for Sergei Vladimir, but seemingly also as assassins to kill Albert Wesker.
Which, you may have surmised, they failed at quite spectacularly.
Wherethe Ivans really shine is in their look.
As part of this, many of their more secretive creations are brought to light, such as T.A.L.O.S.
Umbrella does love European gods.
It was comically overbuilt.
Chris and Jill killed it anyway.
It follows on from Resident Evil 2 and 3, from the perspective of Claire and Chris Redfield.
Though they don’t look great today, they’ve got a spark that can’t be replicated.
T-078 was a unique Tyrant in that it was entirely un-unique.
They were a mass-produced variant, though each without limiters.
This meant that though they started from the same base, each could mutate differently.
He is fought twice, having mutated differently each time.
5Resident Evil: Code Veronica - Bandersnatch
Tyrants were exceptionally difficult to produce.
This is where the Bandersnatch came in.
They were, in a sense, a budget Tyrant.
This made them much less effective but consequently ended up giving them a fascinating, asymmetrical design.
In it, they explore an abandoned Umbrella training facility, itself housed withmany of their failed experiments.
Within it is the very first Tyrant ever produced, the T-001, also known as the Proto Tyrant.
In many ways, it shares traits of the zombies seen in the rest of the series.
Its body is grotesque and festering, its eyes showing only white, and retains an overall human form.
It possessed absurd strength, but lacked almost all intelligence, simply hunting down anything that lived.
3Resident Evil - T-002
The Resident Evil series features some pretty unique weapons.
But these have stood out among the rest as the best in the games.
However, testing on them was never completed due to an experiment gone wrong.
As a result, it was left abandoned in the Spencer Mansion.
Particularly of note is the enlarged arm, bearing the trademark claws of Tyrants.
Encountered by Jill Valentine during the Raccoon City Incident, Nemesis, very aptly, becomes her rival.
They’re designed to make you fear living.
