But oh boy, the scalpers were there in force.
The store is charging four times its regular price for postage on the mini tins.
This event, unfortunately, epitomized that.
It didnt take long for me to start noticing the cracks, though.
Its no secret that the launch of Prismatic Evolutions has been an unmitigated disaster.
This was reflected on the London Card Show floor.
I then noticed another at the same price and a third selling them for 100.
The gouging became inescapable.
It wasnt just the Elite Trainer Boxes, either.
Some stalls had even broken down products and were selling individual packs for 10.
Its a damning indictment of where the TCG is at the moment.
Another expansion that has been under the spotlight for similar reasons is Scarlet and Violet 151.
Its a set focused around the original 151 Pokemon and is driven by nostalgia.
Over recent months, it has been scalped to high heaven.
This seeped into London Card Show.
These tins tend to retail at 8.99 or 9.99.
Each case contains 10 tins, so youre looking at a value of, at most, 99.99.
They were attempting to sell it for 15 times that.
Did they get them from an official supplier, or were they taken away from other prospective buyers?
Did they think what they were doing was harmful to the hobby?
All three, unsurprisingly, pleaded the fifth, and their silence was deafening.
I never get tired of charging idiots too much for cardboard.
Theres so much to unpack from that single gross line.
Dont let this deter you from future events; just give these scalpers a wide berth.
