All that hard work gone to waste, et cetera.

Put simply, this is not the sort of video game I want to see exist.

This is not just a matter of taste.

Donkey Kong looking shocked in Donkey Kong Bananza.

There are plenty of video games I dont personally like, but can still appreciate.

Its hard to imagine a live serviceGod of Wargame doing that.

Frankly, we have enough live-service games.

The portal to Shivering Isles in Oblivion Remastered.

We dont need any more.

Can good ones still emerge in this market?

Sure.Helldivers 2madeTheGamers Game of the Year listlast year.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Jason Close-Up Driving

But mostly, these games feel soulless because they do not start life with a soul.

This is bigger than just me not thinking this particular game would have had the juice.

Kratos in front of a tech background

I felt it when Concord died so quickly and pointlessly.

I felt it whenHyenas didnt even get a chance to live.

I dont think as many of them need to exist and thus every one that doesnt is a victory.

Kratos about to stab an enemy with his Blades of Chaos in God of War: Ragnarok.

It may even mean less executive-led game design in future, but one step at a time.

For a long time now, it has felt as though something needs to change in gaming.

God of War is not the beginning of the change gaming needs, nor is it the end.

Kratos standing next to a torch during a lightning storm from God of War Ragnarok.

But it might be a sign that were on the right track.
