Dragons have been a large part ofFinal Fantasy 14’s lore since A Realm Reborn.
Not much is known about the origins of dragons in Eorzea, at least until Endwalker.
Midgardsormr, Nidhogg, and Vrtra are just a few of the important dragons you encounter in FF14.
Spoilers ahead for the entirety of Final Fantasy 14’s story!
Despite their prominence in the world of Etheirys, Midgardsormr and the First Brood are actuallynot from this planet.
Their homeworld,Dragonstar, is an ancient and distant planet where all dragon-kind lived.
The war on Dragonstarnearly annihilated all dragons.
Shortly after, these seven dragons hatched,becoming the First Brood of Midgardsormr.
Who Are The First Brood?
The First Brood were the first seven dragons that were born of Midgardsormr.
The names of these dragons are listed below.
Essentially, Midgardsormr and the First Brood form the head of the dragon family tree on Etheirys.
It was from them that all other dragons were born.
As the dragons matured, they spread across the land.
What Happened To The First Brood?
Eventually, the First Brood left the nest, spreading across the planet to its different corners.
Bahamut
Bahamut, along with Tiamat, formed theMeracydian Horde.
ThisPrimal Bahamut was sealed inside the red moon Dalamud.
She thenallowed herself to be capturedby the Allagans, as a form of self-punishment for summoning the false Bahamut.
She then joined the battle against Lunar Bahamut, aiding the adventurers in defeating him.
Hraesvelgr eventually relented and did just that, forming analliancebetween Elezen and dragons that lasted fortwo hundred years.
His fight is renewed in the near-present when the Warrior of Light becomes entangled in the Dragonsong War.
They both accepted but wereunable to push back the Voidsent forces that Emporer Xande had summoned.
She survived for some time before beingcaptured by Golbez and his four Archfiends.
Eventually, he learned of aplanar fissure beneath the waters of Thavnair.
Over time, Vrtra was able towiden the planar fissureenough so that he could walk through.
Instead, Vrtra focused on governing Thavnair, until the Warrior of Light rediscovers the portal.
There, they learn ofAzdaja’s capture by Golbez, and battle each of the four Archfiends.
