So why do people think Dawntrail should be kicking things off with a bigger bang?
Dawntrail is meant to be a more laid-back vacation for our Warrior of Light after the last ten years.
We shouldnt be comparing Dawntrail to Endwalker.
It seems obvious when you spell it out, but Dawntrail is a beginning; Endwalker was an ending.
One is a dawn.
The other is an end.
Theyre not going to hit the same, and theyre not meant to.
We should be comparing Dawntrail to A Ream Reborn as the start of the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc.
Do you guys remember A Realm Reborn?
The fact our only previous comparison was the mess of 1.0 made ARR even shinier and easier to enjoy.
It was only with the hindsight given after expansions started launching that we realised just how vanilla ARR was.
But like Dawntrail, it was a starting point for an epic narrative that would take years to tell.
Dawntrail building up in the same slow way is right on trend for the beginning of a new story.
Yes, these characters dont mean as much to us as we dont know them as well.
They havent been given years of development.
Lets remember Estinien started as a Dragoon role quest NPC before he took the spotlight in Heavensward.
Graha Tia appeared in the Crystal Tower raid before he became the Exarch in Shadowbringers.
She might grow into a character that many fall in love with.
It might not be in Dawntrail.
It might not be in the next expansion even.
But its a definite possibility, given the track record of so many characters before her.
Im about halfway through the Main Scenario Quest, and I agree there is a slow start.
But it gets more interesting as it goes, though I wont spoil anything here.
Im reserving my final opinion on Dawntrail for when Ive finished the MSQ.
Dont let others put you off.
