Summary
The world ofDungeons & Dragonsis home to a menagerie of wondrous animals.
Leave riding on horses for the real world.
We’re playing a classic tabletop gamehere, not a historically accurate medieval simulator.
So be prepared to pony up for your local dungeon master.
This makes dungeon crawling a breeze, letting you use the ceilings of cave structures to avoid most traps.
Ants in particular, however, come with an added roleplaying flavor.
20Peryton
Rare
Sky, but only for evil characters.
It can even be hidden as an unassuming, giant barrel.
18Camel
Common
Desert
The desert dwellers go to this steed.
Camels may not be the flashiest option on the menu, but they are exotic in their own right.
More than that, they are cheap with a usual price of 50 gp.
Besides, who would ride a horse when it’s possible for you to ride a camel for cheaper?
Thus, the giant lizard is an ideal choice for adventurers covering a wide variety of terrain.
You’ll want to make use of these new items.
Lizards have darkvision out to 30 feet.

16Elephant
Plain outdoors
Here’s a proper combat monster.
The Player’s Handbook (PHB) recommends a cost of 200 gp, though.
Furthermore, the elephant’s enormous size prevents it from coming along in any cramped dungeon corridors.

In other words, you probably won’t have to worry about road bandits.
15Worg
Any, but only for evil characters.
If you’re looking for a conversation partner, the Worg will serve you well.

There are a couple of caveats, though.
Firstly, most of them only know Goblin.
These things aside, the Worg serves well as a mount.
Camel via Wizards of the Coast
Its bite attack can knock creatures prone, and it has advantage on perception checks involving hearing or smell.
The creatures are incredibly rare and a favored meal for dragons, wyverns, and griffons.
The Warforged Charger is designed for the battlefield and has some combat abilities.
Frost Salamander via Wizards of the Coast
They have hands and feet and can stand upright as much as they can run on all fours.
Don’t fall back on the mundane; make better characters for your next campaign.
