Ive developed an almost Pavlovian response to the genre.
Not every genre is for everyone.
Im the same way about sports games and fighting games too.
Cozy Games Are Great, The Term Cozy Games Is Not
The thing is, Ilikecozy games.
I like cozy games, I just dont like the name cozy games.
Like Steampunk or Noir, Cozy Games arent a genre, theyre a vibe.
Cozy games arent combat-focused and they dont center violence in the narrative or gameplay.
They arent competitive, and they wont test your reflexes or ability to make quick decisions.
Id say it was a renovation simulator, it would never occur to me to describe it as cozy.
Its an unnecessary and useless term.
For some people, that could beDark Souls.
Dark Souls is a cozy game if you think it is.
The term isnt helping us define anything.
I havent written off cozy games altogether.
