Whilesome zombie games are downright terrifying, others take zombies in a comical and sometimes even funny direction.
If youre interested in playing the best zombie games on PS4 and PS5, look no further.
Updated March 31, 2025 by Ben Jessey:Fighting zombies is a lot of fun in most games.
Yet, it’s especially great in the titles on this list.
We’ve added a few more games to the collection in this update.
In the second game, people still have to deal with these beasts.
At this point, people are just trying to survive the best they can.
However, the two protagonists, Abby and Ellie, have other things going on.
This means you don’t get to spend much time in nice little communities.
You’re out in the wild fighting against infected monsters and other humans.
The most important thing in the game, though, is the incredible and dark story.
Golf Vs Zombies
Golf and Zombies aren’t two things you usually expect to see together.
This is what makes Golf vs Zombies unique.
You actually play golf in a zombie-filled world.
Thankfully, the holes aren’t filled with zombies, but they sometimes wander onto the course.
Once they do, you have to fire balls their way to give a shot to take them out.
When you aren’t defending yourself against undead creatures, you’re playing a wholesome arcade golf game.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP
The original Lollipop Chainsaw was released in the PS3 era.
However, the RePop version is a remaster that came out for newer systems.
Its a game that stands out because its very different from other zombie titles.
After all, you play as a high school cheerleader with her boyfriends head attached to her waist.
She isnt a standard school student, though, as she comes from a family of zombie hunters.
The combat is of a hack-and-slash style and is very stylish and flashy.
Unturned
Unturned is a free-to-play zombie game.
So, you gotta explore and scavenge for resources.
This includes weapons, as this world contains plenty of zombies that you may have to defend yourself against.
That isnt the only danger to you, though.
You also have to manage your hunger and thirst.
Plus, nature isnt always safe, either.
Yet, surviving isnt the only thing you do during the game.
There are also quests to complete and a story to progress.
you’ve got the option to even meet others online and either work with or against them.
That is by design, as the series is supposed to be lighthearted and fun.
The series doesnt get much more fun than it is in the first Garden Warfare title.
The game is a multiplayer team-based third-person shooter where one team plays as plants while the other are zombies.
As this is a video game, the plants are different from real-life ones.
You arent just planted in the ground, after all.
Each throw in of plant can walk around and has unique abilities that are capable of taking out zombies.
The developers have taken the original 2006 game and given it a full makeover.
Not only does it look much better, but it plays better, too.
Then, some weird things happen, and the Detective suddenly has to deal with plenty of monsters.
Some of the beasts are humans who have been turned into walking corpses.
Their flesh looks rotten, and they’re covered in blood.
The game may call them Haunted instead of zombies, but they’re essentially the same thing.
Throughout the game, you will be encouraged to kill a lot of them.
The Last Stand: Aftermath
There aren’t many zombies quite like The Last Stand: Aftermath.
It’s an action-adventure rogue-lite game where you pick a survivor and are placed in a post-apocalyptic world.
Strange Brigade
There is a reason why Strange Brigade has ‘strange’ in its title.
This is a very zany third-person shooter.
You control a member of the titular team who is known for taking on supernatural threats.
In this case, the threat is a bunch of undead people and mythical creatures.
So, along with zombies, you also fight mummies, scorpions, and more.
You do so mainly using guns and grenades.
Each playable character also has special abilities to make them unique.
Yet, their distinct looks and personalities already help make them feel different from one another.
Overall, it’s a comical and exciting cooperative game.
Dying Light 2
In Dying Light 2, a zombie apocalypse doesn’t just break out.
It has already been going on for a while once the game begins.
In fact, the protagonist, Aiden, has spent most of his life amid a zombie outbreak.
This takes him to the city of Villedor, which serves as your open world.
While exploring and completing quests, you’re encouraged to avoid these beasts using your excellent parkour skills.
You do have to fight either infected creatures or antagonistic people on some occasions, though.
Signalis
Signalis is very clearly inspired by the early Resident Evil games.
You have a limited inventory to manage, safe rooms to visit, and puzzles to solve.
There are plenty of amazing zombie games on the Xbox 360.
Despite its similarities to Resident Evil, Signalis still remains its own game.
It’s a sci-fi horror title that puts you in control of a biomechanical humanoid known as Elster.
As her, you roam around a facility that contains plenty of your corrupted brethren.
So, when you’re fighting them, the game certainly feels like a zombie title.
Killing Floor 2
Killing Floor 2 is an FPS title featuring zombie-like creatures called Zeds.
The goal of the game isn’t just to survive their attacks; you must eliminate them all.
This is because Killing Floor 2 is a title all about wiping out waves of monsters.
So, this is a more action-oriented jot down of zombie game than a scary one.
It’s a very fun squad-based third-person shooteror at least it was a third-person shooter at launch.
And the words ‘giant hordes’ aren’t used lightly.
These fast-moving beasts all clump together in a giant pile as they desperately attempt to reach you.
It’s a visual spectacle.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War
The Zombie Army series is a spin-off of Sniper Elite.
So, Dead War contains some elements from those excellent sniping games.
Therefore, this title feels a bit different from traditional zombie squad-based shooters.
It’s absurd and enjoyable.
Things are switched around for Stubbs The Zombie In Rebel Without A Pulse, though.
You control the zombie, and your goal is to infect the populace of a brand-new city.
So, you wander around and turn people into zombies to build up your forces.
This uniqueness makes up for some clunky controls and level design.
Plus, the game is quite silly and humorous.
Dysmantle
Not all post-apocalyptic worlds have to be dark and dreary.
For instance, Dysmantle contains a fairly bright and eye-catching world.
However, it’s still filled with zombies looking to munch on you.
You’re encouraged to explore the place, gather resources, and, most importantly, stay alive.
This game feels like a traditional survival game mixed with a survival horror title.
It features roguelike elements and several different modes, from a co-op campaign to competitive multiplayer.
Back 4 Blood is very reminiscent of the Left 4 Dead games.
So, the concept is basically the exact same as the one in the Left 4 Dead series.
Watch out, though, as it isn’t just regular infected you’re up against.
If you have played these games, it’s hard to forget about these unnerving moments.
The reason it’s so harsh is that it’s filled with zombies.
All the building and crafting is to keep you alive and stop the beasts from taking you out.
By the seventh day, you’re in serious trouble.
In fact, that first meeting with a zombie where it slowly turns its head is iconic.
That is easier said than done in this legendary survival horror game.
Days Gone
Days Gone is an action-adventure title taking place in a post-apocalyptic version of Oregon.
You play as a biker named Deacon St. John, who is on the search for his wife.
This means roaming the open world, which is filled with countless zombie-like creatures.
Thankfully, you have a motorbike, meaning you have a good way to get around.
And when things do get violent, you have firearms to gun the creatures down.
Dead Island 2
The first Dead Island wasn’t very well received by players or critics.
Yet, the response to the sequel is much better.
It’s a first-person open-world game set in Los Angeles.
Yet, L.A. looks a bit different because the place is filled with zombies due to a recent outbreak.
These creatures make roaming the world pretty difficult.
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead is a different kind of zombie experience.
In fact, these choices can affect who lives or dies, sothere are some tough ones.
When you meet her, she’s just a scared child but grows a lot over the seasons.
While not technically zombies, the game’s ‘infected’ have been mutated by the fictional Cordyceps Brain Infection.
The game is tough, though.
you could expect to make countless runs through levels.
Set on an abandoned island, you play as the Beheaded, a creature that possesses corpses.
The beautiful but immensely difficult game offers a fun challenge.
While mired with many defeats, Dead Cells is a rewarding zombie experience.
Originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game can currently be played on PS4 and PS5.
Undead Nightmare offers a humorous take on the gigantic sandbox that is Red Dead Redemption.
The game trades in the parkour elements from the first Dying Light for a more vehicle-based game.
A co-op FPS, Back 4 Blood was launched in 2021 and continues in the vein of Turtle Rock Studios' previous work on Left 4 Dead. It features roguelike elements and several different modes, from a co-op campaign to competitive multiplayer.
But if youre going to slaughter zombies, customizable cars are a great way to do it.
But the title has a fantastic zombie mode.
Firstly, It contains two unique storylines for Zombies.
(Snowball cannon, anyone?)
Naturally, it leads to a huge outbreak, which means hordes of zombies roam everywhere.
You spend the game waving through them as you find a way to escape the zombie-filled area.
The game features single-player as well as multiplayer options.
The Zombies use the Z-mech against the plants to conquer Suburbia and rename the place Zomburbia.
The plants then wage war against the zombies to get their homes back.
you’ve got the option to choose to play as either plants or zombies.
Garden Warfare 2 is a fun zombie title with countless ways to customize the game.
The game also introduces six new characters that will keep you entertained.
The game asks what happens when you combine Minecraft with Left 4 Dead.
The survivors are left to fight zombies.
Unfortunately, the missions in this game often become more monotonous the longer you play.
Death Road To Canada
Zombie games take a wide array of forms.
Death Road to Canada mixes zombies with an Oregon Trail-like storyline.
The game takes place over two weeks as the two survivors make a run at reach the US/Canada border.
Along the way, the players meet various characters who can join them on their journey.
Sometimes, “siege” events occur where the player must survive a zombie horde for a fixed time.
A basic but extremely enjoyable game, Death Road to Canada is a memorable take on the zombie genre.
This is a road trip worth taking.
