The biggest changes this year affect LANs.
It’s going to feel like a gigantic LAN party, ALGS commissioner John Nelson tells me.
It’s going to feel like the MLG events of old or your EVO jot down of event.
After Split 1 has finished, we go straight into the seasons second LAN, the Mid-Season Playoffs.
That feeds into Split 2, and then were back around to the Year Championship before we know it.
Nelson confirmed this wont be the case.
I can tell you we’re not doing that, says Nelson of the Year 3 setup.
So we’ll be adding another map to the ecosystem Broken Moon going into Year 5.
Thankfully, the system that the ALGS is introducing takes the decision out of players hands.
The most-used Legend in a match is automatically banned for the rest of the round.

There are a couple of caveats to this.
Match Score ties will be broken by Match Placement.
This should shake up the meta considerably as tournaments progress.

Teams will have to be adaptable, and new sub-metas will emerge.
The Year 4 ALGS Championship in Sapporo will be difficult to top.
But Nelson and Chiang want next year to be bigger, better, to continue growing in every metric.
Nelson sums it up simply.
