RPGs have a lot to offer.
But the thing most people come back to when they talk about great RPGs is the story.
Naturally, emphasizing narrative will also often lead to some pretty interesting depictions of relationships.
Some of them have beautiful, inspirational relationships while others can be more tragic.
However, what remains consistent is that they are all compelling in their own ways.
They have unquestionably given us some of the most memorable couples in games.
You could say that we added a couple of couples.
Feena, being an established adventurer, initially writes Justin off.
18Yuri And Alice
Yuri and Alice are an inspired pair.
Alice and Yuri bring out the best in each other.
They are complimentary partners.
It shows that this pair is far more than just a fling.
Just leave it at that!)
and focus on what this relationship brings to the table.
For starters, this is another fantastic example of two unique personalities who complement each other satisfyingly.
Refreshingly, for once the brash, hot-headed characterisn’t the guyin the relationship.
Estelle is definitely the one who takes charge, while it isJoshua who takes a more supporting role.
This all feels like a reversal of the typical JPRG romance.
Their romance naturally grows over the course of their story and is a delight to behold.
But it is also great to see some of those classic JRPG romance tropes turned on their head.
Very early on we see that Fei isnotokay.
He is a man split between two identities and one of them is extraordinarily violent.
Elly is similarly torn betweenher devotion to the Solarian causeand her own more compassionate nature.
Ultimately, it is fair to say that these two are a mess.
Everyone seems to be pairing off in this title.
However, our all-time favorite couple has to be Jessica and Kyle.
Is this a healthy relationship?
Which is the most important part.
So, we will give some of their moreturbulentqualities a pass.
Ultimately, this pair is as charming as they are dysfunctional.
That’s gotta count for something!
Its protagonist, Welkin, does a great job walking that line as well.
Throughout the course of the game, we see his relationship with Alicia grow.
Through hardships and tragedies, the two become inseparable.
It is heartwarming and, surprisingly, a pretty rare sight in video games.
It isn’t very often that we get to see these relationships blossom so fully.
And there is a reason for that; typically, RPG romances aren’t for the aged.
Which is one of the reasons whyFinal Fantasy 9’s Steiner and Beatrix’s relationship is so great.
These aren’t lovestruck teenagers discovering their feelings for the first time,these areprofessionals.
Neither Steiner nor Beatrix have their heads in the clouds, and that alone makes their pairing more interesting.
Respect is something that can endure long after the flames of passion have inevitably lost some of their heat.
Alphys and Undynes relationship, on the other hand, happens in the margins of the story.
What can we say?
We love these two together!
Is it the same kind of relationship that siblings would have, or is it romantic?
Or does it even make sense to draw these simple parallels for androids who arenothuman?
However, what is absolutely unambiguous is the strength of their bond.

Personally, we do see this as a romantic relationship.
And with that, some very interesting things emerge.
This is a couple that chooses their affection for each other over their primary mission.
It is also a relationship which involves very literal self-sacrifice at multiple points in the story.
10Tengaar And Hix, Suikoden
Tengaar and Hix are Suikoden’s pair of traveling lovebirds.
They appear in the first twoSuikodengames.
These two make quite the duo.
Tengaar is outspoken and brave, while Hix is unsure of himself and timid.
Their whole reason for adventuring is to, essentially, build Hix’s confidence.
It is a very cute relationship.
If that isn’t what a great relationship is built off of, then what is?
